Privacy Policy

Effective date: May 13, 2026

Sporks for Dorts ("we," "our," or "us") is a product of Not Ben's, operated from Canada. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your personal information when you use the Sporks for Dorts mobile app and related websites (collectively, the "Service"). We comply with the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act ("PIPEDA") and applicable Canadian provincial privacy laws.

1. What we collect

We aim to collect as little personal information as possible. Specifically:

  • Account & preference data: if you create an account, we store your email address. We also store your region (e.g. North America, UK, Continental Europe) and language preference so we can deliver the right brief.
  • Device & usage data: standard technical information such as device type, OS version, app version, language, time zone, anonymous usage events (e.g. which sections of a brief are opened), crash reports, and approximate region inferred from IP address. We do not collect precise GPS location.
  • Support correspondence: if you contact us, we keep the message, your email, and any details you choose to include so we can reply and improve the product.
  • Push token (optional): if you enable notifications, we store an anonymous push token so we can send you new-brief alerts.

We do not sell your personal information. We do not run third-party advertising trackers inside the app.

2. How we use your information

  • To deliver briefs in your chosen region and language.
  • To operate, maintain, and improve the Service.
  • To diagnose technical problems and prevent abuse.
  • To send you product-related messages (e.g. brief notifications you opted into, important service notices).
  • To respond to your support requests.
  • To comply with applicable legal obligations.

3. Legal basis & consent

Under PIPEDA, we collect, use, or disclose your personal information only with your knowledge and consent, except where otherwise permitted or required by law. By using the Service, you consent to the practices described in this policy. You can withdraw consent at any time (see "Your choices" below) — note that withdrawing consent may limit our ability to provide parts of the Service.

4. Service providers we use

We share limited information with trusted vendors who help us operate the Service. Each is contractually required to safeguard your information and use it only for the purposes we specify. These include:

  • Apple & Google — app distribution, in-app purchases, push delivery.
  • Cloud hosting & database providers — to store account data and serve briefs.
  • Analytics & crash reporting providers — to understand product usage in aggregate and fix bugs.
  • Email provider — to handle support correspondence and transactional email.
  • AI / content providers — to generate and translate the brief content. We do not send your personal information to these providers in connection with brief generation.

Some of these providers are based outside Canada (notably in the United States and the European Union). As a result, your information may be stored and processed outside Canada and may be subject to the laws of those jurisdictions, including lawful access by foreign authorities.

5. Retention

We keep personal information only as long as we need it for the purposes described above, or as required by law. Account data is retained for the life of your account and deleted within a reasonable period after you request deletion. Support emails are retained for up to 24 months. Aggregated and de-identified data may be retained indefinitely.

6. Security

We use industry-standard technical and organizational measures to protect your personal information — including encryption in transit (TLS), encryption at rest for stored data, restricted internal access, and routine security reviews. No system is perfectly secure; if we discover a breach that materially affects your information, we will notify you and the appropriate authorities as required by law.

7. Your choices and rights

You have the right to:

  • Access the personal information we hold about you.
  • Ask us to correct inaccurate or incomplete information.
  • Withdraw your consent to certain uses (subject to legal or contractual restrictions).
  • Request deletion of your account and associated personal information.
  • Opt out of push notifications at any time via your device settings.
  • File a complaint with the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada at priv.gc.ca.

To exercise any of these rights, email hello@sporksfordorts.com. We will respond within 30 days.

8. Children

Sporks for Dorts is intended for adults. The Service is not directed to children under the age of 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.

9. Cookies & similar technologies

The Sporks for Dorts website uses a minimal set of first-party cookies and local storage to remember your preferences (e.g. that you've dismissed a notice). We do not run third-party advertising cookies. You can clear cookies via your browser settings.

10. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we'll update the "Effective date" above and, where appropriate, notify you in the app or by email. Continued use of the Service after a change means you accept the updated policy.
